THOUGHTS:

The beloved Gaither Vocal Band is back with another hit recording! That’s Gospel, Brother features twelve incredible songs both old and new each with that classic GVB style. The vocal lineup featuring Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles, Wes Hampton, Reggie Smith, and Bill Gaither shines on this exciting new project. They continue to outdo themselves with each recording in my opinion.

This stellar project opens with the driving rhythm of a lesser known GVB tune “There Is A Mountain” which was originally recorded on 1990’s A Few Good Men. This version is given a fresh track and a fun catchy new arrangement. The title track, featuring Todd Suttles, is an old Statesmen Quartet tune that serves as a great message for today. Though we are different, we can still walk and work together in harmony for that’s the Gospel. “My Feet Are On The Rock” featuring stellar vocals from Wes Hampton, is a great worship style song that proclaims that Christ is unchanging. On Christ the solid rock I stand! Next, the GVB puts a new spin on their classic “I Just Feel Like Something Good Is About To Happen,” which reminds us that Christ works all things for our good. The harmonies on this new version are simply incredible! In similar fashion, the group reinvents another older Gather classic “Out Of Bondage” giving it a driving rhythm and worship feel. Adam Crabb takes the lead on this powerful lyric that praises Christ who frees us from the prison of sin. The quintet’s impeccable harmonies are front and center on the classic “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be,” which looks to our forever home. Crabb takes the lead once again on the worship anthem “The Way (New Horizon)” which was previously made popular by Housefire and Pat Barrett. This powerful song simply praises Christ, the Way, The Truth, and the Life! Wes Hampton shines on the tender “Two Prayers (Father Dear),” which asks God to protect our children. Reggie Smith is featured on the groovy “You Don’t Knock (You Just Walk On In),” which previously appeared on the group’s 1988 album Wings. This fun song reminds us that Christ is always there for us and is just a prayer away! “Lord, Save Us” is reminiscent of a classic Imperials style tune. Reggie Smith once again takes the lead on this lyric that asks Christ for strength and mercy for a weary people. “Moses, Take Your Shoes Off” is a fun tune featuring Todd Suttles that tells the story of Moses. It also encourages listeners to spread the Word Of God to all as we await His return. This incredible album closes with the powerful hymn-like anthem “Here I Stand.” This breathtaking song praises Christ for all He has done for us. “He is sure and here I stand.”

FINAL THOUGHTS:

THIS PROJECT IS, IN MY OPINION, THE BEST ALBUM OF 2021 SO FAR. INCREDIBLE VOCALS, WELL CRAFTED SONGS, AND A POWERFUL MESSAGE. THIS CURRENT LINEUP HAS REALLY SOLIDIFIED INTO ONE OF THE GROUP’S FINEST. BILL GAITHER TRULY HAS A KNACK FOR GATHERING INCREDIBLE TALENT AND THIS IS YET ANOTHER INSTALLMENT IN THAT MUSICAL LEGACY. MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS BELOVED GROUP CONTINUES TO SHARE THE GOSPEL IN A TIME WHEN WE DESPERATELY NEED IT.

HIGHLIGHTS: “YOU DON’T KNOCK,” “HERE I STAND,” MY FEET ARE ON THE ROCK,” “THERE IS A MOUNTAIN,” AND “MOSES, TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF.”

5 OUT OF 5 STARS!
