THOUGHTS:
Classic is quite a fitting title for this new recording from the Mark Trammell Quartet! MTQ’s signature harmonies shine on ten classic Southern Gospel standards that are sure to delight listeners. As you all know by now, I love when artists go back and record these timeless classics. Therefore, this album is right up my alley.
This talented quartet delivers stellar renditions of toe tapping convention style songs such as “When They Call My Name,” “When Morning Sweeps The Eastern Sky,” and “I’m Living In Canaan Now.” Will Lane’s smooth bass voice is featured on the J.D. Sumner penned “Victory Road,” and the beautiful Cathedral Quartet ballad “Yesterday.” Lane has been an incredible addition to the group since he joined last year (2022). Stephen Adair shines on the classic tenor standard “Little Is Much” as well as the aforementioned “Yesterday.” Nick Trammell takes the lead on the Elmo Rodgers penned “After All” which encourages listeners to trust Christ and let Him guide you. With Him, we will make it through anything. I’ve got faith that I can make it after all. Mark Trammell delivers a powerful performance on the Gaither classic “Because He Lives.” This song has been covered countless times. In my opinion, this is one of the best versions.
