THOUGHTS:
Legacy Five is back with what is, in my humble opinion, their best project to date, Something New.This new cd featuring twelve inspirational tracks is the group’s first on Stowtown Records having joined the label this year. This lineup featuring Lee Black, Scott Fowler, Bryan Walker, Matt Fouch, along with new pianist Garrett Anderson has been truly fantastic and this album showcases this perfectly.
This incredible album opens with the rousing anthem “Welcome To Your Life,” which encourages the listener to take hold of your new life in Christ. Leave your doubt and fear behind for He has poured out His overwhelming Love out to you. “Enough For Me” is a catchy, mid-tempo tune that simply says: If He never did anything else for me, I will forever thank Him for Calvary. Hallelujah! That’s enough for me. Each member is featured on this song of praise. Bryan Walker takes the lead on the mid-tempo track “Testify,” which encourages listeners to lift up their praise to Christ. This groovy song asks if anybody is unashamed of Jesus Christ! Praise Him for He has brought us through! Matt Fouch, Scott Fowler, and Lee Black are featured on the powerful Easter ballad “Given, Buried, Risen.” This incredible track (a great follow up to “What Kind Of Man”) reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice and His Love for us. Scott Fowler delivers one of his finest vocal performances on the simply beautiful track “Jesus Wept.” This powerful, deeply moving ballad asks forgiveness for our sins. “For every hurt that we inflict out of our own ignorance. For the mockers, and believers, and for those without a clue, for the ones who need forgiveness for we know not what we do, Jesus wept.” Bryan Walker takes the lead once again on “Love Speaks,” a beautiful mid-tempo tune that encourages listeners to show Christ’s Love to all. Love speaks without a single word spoken! Matt Fouch shines on the groovy “Who Better Than Me,” which tells of the transforming power of Christ and the overwhelming joy we can’t keep inside. We must go and tell of His Love! It is great to hear Fouch showcase his higher range on this track. Lee Black takes the lead on the groovy “Be Alright,” which encourages listeners that as long as we have Jesus, everything will be alright! Black is also featured on the powerful ballad “I’ve Seen What God Can Do.” This incredible track simply says: I have never seen the face of God, but I have seen the incredible things He has made and what He can do. Bryan Walker takes the lead again “Believer,” a fun track that is a statement of faith. I am an overcomer! I am a believer! “Eyes Of Faith” is another groovy track that reminds us that through Christ anything is possible. Through the eyes of faith, giant problems are nothing. This incredible album closes with the title track, “Something New.” This mid-tempo tune encourages listeners to place your faith in Christ and watch as He is up to something new.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF THE YEAR. LEGACY FIVE CONTINUES TO DELIVER STELLAR PROJECTS FEATURING TOP NOTCH VOCALS, EXCELLENT MUSICIANSHIP, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: THE TIMELESS MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL. SOMETHING NEW IS IN MY OPINION THE GROUP’S BEST PROJECT TO DATE. THIS LINEUP BLENDS PERFECTLY TOGETHER. THIS ALBUM IS SOMETHING NEW AS THE GROUP LEANS A BIT MORE TOWARD THE PROGRESSIVE STYLINGS, BUT STILL HAS THAT CLASSIC LEGACY FIVE SOUND. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “JESUS WEPT,” “GIVEN, BURIED, RISEN,” “EYES OF FAITH,” AND “ENOUGH FOR ME.”
