THOUGHTS:

Everybody Needs Jesus is the latest mainline release from Poet Voices. This solid recording is the first to feature new bass singer Cyle Cornish, who returns to full time quartet singing after an eighteen year absence. Cornish previously sang bass for the Melody Masters Quartet. He brings an impressive, smooth low end to the group. This exciting album features ten songs all but one is co-written by Phil Cross.

The album opens with the energetic “Twice On Sunday” which features Cornish and baritone Donny Henderson. It tells of the joy of singing for Christ in church. Tenor Nic Holland takes the lead on the ballad “It Will Be Finished,” which reminds us that your story does not end in failure. Christ is not done with us. It will be finished when He is through. Run the race. Keep the faith. There is hope in Him. Holland gives a great performance though his voice starts to thin out a bit in his higher register.“Everybody’s Song” is a fun, groovy tune that celebrates harmony in both music and life. Henderson shines on “Is There Anybody Else Like Me,” a great mid-tempo track that encourages people to lift their hands and accept Christ as their Savior. Holland is featured once again on the anthem “Triumphant Cross” which tells of Christ’s sacrifice and His Resurrection. “Everybody Needs Jesus Christ,” another strong Donny Henderson feature, is a powerful ballad that simply says: this broken world needs a lasting Love. Cyle Cornish’s smooth bass is featured on the up-tempo tune “Goin’ Down This Road,” which tells of the joy of knowing Christ. Phil Cross takes the lead on “The Cover,” a ballad that reminds us that God knows the end of our story: Glorious ever after. “This Is Who We Are” is a fun, up-tempo tune that simply says: we are sinners saved and forgiven. The album closes with the powerful “It Was Not Easy,” a ballad that tells of the challenging rescue carried out by Christ. It was not easy saving my soul.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

POET VOICES DELIVERS ANOTHER SOLID RECORDING OVERALL. WELL CRAFTED SONGS, SOLID VOCALS, AND TOP NOTCH MUSICIANSHIP. CYLE CORNISH IS A GREAT ADDITION TO THE GROUP. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “TWICE ON SUNDAY,” “GOIN’ DOWN THIS ROAD,” “EVERYBODY NEEDS JESUS CHRIST,” AND “THIS IS WHO WE ARE.”
