THOUGHTS:
The Gaither Vocal Band has done it again! This new project was one of my most anticipated of the year; and I must say it did not disappoint. From the opening notes, I was completely captivated. While the group has seen its share of personnel changes over the years, it has, in my opinion, always remained consistent in style and sound. This record once again showcases the incredible blend of the current lineup. While individually talented, Good Things Take Time uniquely focuses more on the intricate harmonies of the group as a whole. This incredible album features fresh takes on a few classics and introduces new songs that are sure to be classics.
The album opens with an incredible orchestral arrangement of the classic “Child Of The King” that has an Celtic feel to it. Todd Suttles takes the lead on the Walter Hawkins penned “Goin’ Up Yonder.” This groovy tune looks to Heaven where we will live forever with Christ if we believe. There is comfort in knowing that because of God’s Grace, I’ll be going up yonder to live with my Lord. Next, “This Is The Place,” is without question, my favorite track on this project. This Gaither and Gordon Mote penned lyric is a beautiful anthem on the church. Adam Crabb leads this powerful song that describes the church as a safe harbor for all. It invites all to come and share this holy place. Bring your fears and take His Peace. “Hear My Song, Lord” is a beautiful, contemplative song featuring guest vocals from The Martins. This familiar Homecoming tune lifts praise to Christ asking Him to come down and dwell in us. “Yes” is a song of surrender to the Lord’s Will. From the pen of Larry Gatlin and featuring Wes Hampton’s smooth tenor vocal, this beautiful song simply says: I’ll say yes. Whatever you ask me, I’ll say yes. Next, the groovy title track simply says: “Don’t give up, don’t give in that hill was made to climb.” Stay for the long haul, because good things just take time. “Thought Gettin’ Older,” is a fun novelty tune that features Bill Gaither and guest Larry Gatlin poking fun at getting older. I always enjoy when Gaither gets a solo feature and this one is fantastic. The two old friends deliver a gem of a song that they co-wrote together. Next, the quintet puts their spin on the classic hymn “Revive Us Again,” featuring incredible harmonies. “Jesus Is Everywhere,” featuring Suttles and Hampton, reminds us that Jesus is always with us. This groovy song written by Suzanne Jennings, Gordon Mote, and Bill Gaither reminds us of a powerful truth: “You’ve never gone too far, and you’re never in too deep.” Jesus loves you no matter what you’ve done. You are never too far from His Love. Gaither gets some cool bass step out lines on this incredible song. Next, the group re-records one of their own tunes “Love Like I’m Leavin’” and gives it a bit of an update. This great song reminds us that this life is a gift. We need to live like today could be our last. Love more and focus on the more important things of life. “Only Jesus,” features Adam Crabb and Wes Hampton and simply says: I’d trade it all for His Dear Name. Give me Jesus and only Jesus. Reggie Smith and Todd Suttles close out this incredible album with the dramatic “Now is Forever.” This powerful song reminds us that the choices we make are incredibly important. Now is forever.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
GOODS THINGS DO TAKE TIME AND MAN IS THIS ALBUM GOOD. AS I SAID EARLIER, THIS ALBUM BEAUTIFULLY SHOWCASES THE INCREDIBLE GOD GIVEN TALENT OF THE GVB. TOP NOTCH VOCALS, EXCITING HARMONIES, AND POWERFUL SONGS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “THIS IS THE PLACE,” “YES,” “JESUS IS EVERYWHERE,” AND “CHILD OF THE KING.”
WITHOUT A DOUBT, THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS OF THE YEAR SO FAR. GO OUT AND GET THIS CD NOW! YOU WON’T REGRET IT.
5 OUT OF 5 STARS!
