THOUGHTS:
For decades, the McKameys have been spreading the Gospel in song across the country. With dozens of number one hits and a strong dedication to Christ, this legendary group recently announced their retirement from full time touring. The Crown, the group’s fifty-fourth album, is fantastic way to commemorate this group’s incredible career in Southern Gospel Music. This message filled album opens with Sheryl Farris led track “We All Need A Savior.” This mid-tempo tune simply reminds listeners that there is only one Savior: Jesus Christ. Matriarch Peg McKamey Bean shines on the fun, mid-tempo tune “You Must Be Born Again,” which tells the story of Nicodemus. “Call on God’s mercy to cleanse you from sin,” the lyrics include. Next, the group’s classic four part harmonies shine on a stirring rendition of “Cleanse Me,” a beautiful old prayerful hymn. Ruben Bean is featured on the bluegrass styled “Go Back And Pray,” which calls on the listener to pray to Christ and ask Him to take your burdens away. “The Holy Spirit Prayed,” is a unique lyric penned by Tina Sadler that tells of the Holy Spirit interceding when words escape us. Peg’s classic vocal shines on this tender, yet powerful ballad. Roger Fortner takes the lead on the country styled ballad “Heavy,” which tells of heavy burdens being lifted when you give them to the Lord. “He is strong enough to carry what is heavy.” “Don’t Forget,” is a mid-tempo track that simply says: don’t forget that Christ will guide you if you let Him in. Connie is featured on the title track which says: “He chose the cross and accepted the crown.” My soul sings: worthy is the Lamb. Someday all those who believe will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Eli Fortner takes the lead on the tender ballad “God Is Good,” which reminds us of our unchanging God. When life isn’t going right, God is still good. He is always the same. He is always faithful. This special album closes with another Sheryl Farris penned song “From Dust To Glory.” This powerful song proclaims: “From dust to glory, a purpose revealed. Transformed by His power; Oh to be just like Him. An unbelievable story and yet it’s so real. From dust to glory, another promise fulfilled.”
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THIS CD IS A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO THE LEGACY THAT IS THE MCKAMEYS. POWERFUL VOCALS, MEANINGFUL SONGS, AND GREAT QUALITY ALL AROUND. THIS IS A MUST BUY NOT ONLY FOR FANS OF THE GROUP, BUT ALL SOUTHERN GOSPEL FANS.
5 OUT OF 5 STARS!
