THOUGHTS:
One of Southern Gospels premiere tenor voices is back again with another top notch EP. Old Paths tenor Steve Ladd has crafted, along with Cody McVey, another project that features many styles, but delivers the same classic message. This upbeat and soulful EP is one of Ladd’s best efforts in my opinion.
This fresh, new collection of songs kicks off with the upbeat contemporary styled track, “The Thing About A Valley.” The song is the first single from the project and reminds listeners that a valley causes you to look up to God in the dark times. “He Has Made A Way,” is a more traditional Southern Gospel style song that recalls all of the times in history that Christ has led His people through. He has made a way for you! If you believe, He will lead you on to Heaven! “I Never Lost My Praise,” is a powerful, soulful ballad that praises God for His goodness. No matter what comes our way, I will never lose my praise! This is perhaps my favorite track on this EP. Ladd’s vocals are stellar! Next, Ladd reminds us of God’s faithfulness in “Unshakeable God,” another upbeat contemporary track. The title track “Come Up Clean,” is a fun, groovy song that rejoices in the power of Baptism. It calls for everyone to come to water and come up clean of your sins. Jason Crabb joins Ladd on this sure to be hit. The EP closes with another traditional, country styled track entitled “Grave Clothes,” which talks about becoming a new person in Christ. Jesus called me back to life and now I leave those grave clothes behind!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
GOD IS GOOD NO MATTER WHAT WE’VE DONE. THIS PROJECT PROCLAIMS THIS MESSAGE IN POWER. POWERHOUSE VOCALS COMBINED WITH FANTASTIC LYRICS AND MUSICIANSHIP. CODY MCVEY’S PRODUCING IS TOP NOTCH AND JASON CRABB’S GUEST VOCALS ARE INCREDIBLE AS ALWAYS. STEVE LADD PROVES THAT HE ONE OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC’S FINEST VOICES ON THIS EP.
