THOUGHTS:

Soul’d Out Quartet is back with another recording featuring songs of inspiration and hope. Run To The Light showcases what the group is known for: thoughtfully written songs, stellar vocals, and a slightly more progressive style and sound. Matt Rankin wrote eight of the ten tracks. Gordon Mote wrote “I Will Do The Same,” and “Water Grave” is an Imperials classic.

This fresh, exciting new album kicks off with a mid-tempo progressive track entitled “I Will Do The Same.” This anthem featuring the strong lead vocals of Jason McAtee proclaims: I will glorify the name of Jesus! All of creation testifies and I will do the same!! “Heaven” is a groovy, mid-tempo tune that looks toward our home in sky. Tenor Dusty Barrett takes the lead on this song that reminds us that our true home is Heaven and there is nothing like it in this world. Matt Rankin shines on a reinvention of the Soul’d Out classic “That Wonderful Day.” This new version is slowed down and is more groovy than the original. Rankin also takes both verses in this version which differs from the previous track. Ian Owens nails the step-out lines and gets to hit some great low notes. “Next To A Holy God,” once again features McAtee and is a mid-tempo progressive style track. This powerful lyric simply says: “Though I fall short, next to a Holy God I am redeemed.” There sits a Savoir who is reaching out to us. He is sitting next to a Holy God. Through Him, we can stand complete at the throne. Barrett is featured once again on the mid-tempo track “Lord Take This Life,” a simple prayer in song that asks God to use our lives for His Glory. Use my life to tell your story! “The Return,” the first single from the project, is a powerful ballad that urges listeners to spread the Word of God to all people. The day of Christ’s return is coming any day so we must prepare ourselves. Matt Rankin and Dusty Barrett are featured on the verses of this incredible anthem that builds to a impressive finish. The title track “Run To The Light,” is an upbeat, groove that features Matt Rankin and simply says: If you feel like nothing is going right, RUN TO THE LIGHT!! The Lord is waiting to give you sight! Bass singer Ian Owens takes the lead on the groovy track “Jesus Is My Best Friend,” which praises Christ as the way, the truth, and the light. He is the one who died to save me. He is my best friend! There is no one like Him! The group covers the Imperials song “Water Grave,” which tells of someone being born again. He made a change in me and the sinful man I used to be has finally died! The album closes with “Hallelujah What A Savior,” a tender ballad that praises Jesus our Savior! He died so that everyone may live. He broke the chains of bondage and set us free from our sin. Love to all who find Him. Hallelujah, what a Savior, what a friend!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

ONCE AGAIN, SOUL’D OUT QUARTET DELIVERS ANOTHER STRONG, IMPACTFUL RECORDING THAT SHOWCASES THEIR GOD GIVEN TALENTS. EACH MEMBER GIVES STELLAR VOCAL PERFORMANCES AND MATT RANKIN’S SONGWRITING IS TOP NOTCH. STANDOUT TRACKS INCLUDE: “THAT WONDERFUL DAY,” “THE RETURN,” “RUN TO THE LIGHT,” AND “HALLELUJAH WHAT A SAVIOR.”
