THOUGHTS:
Extraordinary. That is a fitting title for this exciting new project from this returning group. Poet Voices is back with Phil Cross assembling a quartet of talented voices once again. Joining Cross in this fresh iteration are Nic Holland (who originally joined in 2000), longtime member Donny Henderson (who originally joined in 1999), and a new face to the group bass singer Brandon Barry. This is the first time in 15 years the group has been a quartet. This CD features great songs (right of which were previously recorded by the group), great vocals, and captures that classic Poet Voices sound.
The album opens with the title track that features Donny Henderson and exclaims: Isn’t it extraordinary that Christ died and rose again! This fun, upbeat track is sure to be a hit at concerts and radio. Next, Phil Cross is featured on the groovy “Come On Children,” which talks about the story of Moses. Brandon Barry gets some step out lines which showcase his smooth bass and impressive low notes. “Hundred Years From Now,” is a mid-tempo tune that encourages listeners to spread the Word of God. Nic Holland’s tender tenor fits well on this song. Brandon Barry shines on the groovy “Hold On A Little Longer,” a song that simply says that we need to hold to God’s unchanging hand through it all! “We Say Yes,” is a classic Poet Voices style track that praises the Lord who said yes to us! Donny Henderson is featured again on the inspirational ballad “Victory Belongs To Jesus,” which says: No one can stand against the Lord! He has overcome the world! We have victory in Him. The mid-tempo track “Steppin Stones,” features Phil Cross and says lay down your burdens to the Lord. Those stumbling blocks become stepping stones when we lay them down. “You Cheer Me On,” another strong feature for tenor Nic Holland. This powerful ballad thanks Christ for His faithfulness and His undying love for us. Barry’s smooth bass and upper register is featured again on the beautiful story ballad “Love Is Alive Forever,” which tells of the undying Love of Christ. “Dear God,” is a mid-tempo tune that simply says: Dear God, thank you for loving me. “Pourin Rain,” asks for the waters of Heaven to rain down. Donny Henderson’s smooth baritone shines on this easy listening song. This great album closes with the mid-tempo track “Trust In You,” that simply says: I will trust in You always. Though it seems that no one is listening, even when You don’t give the answers I want, I will still trust in You. You are the rock on which I stand!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THE POET VOICES ARE BACK! THIS GREAT GROUP SOUNDS LIKE THEY’VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR YEARS. BRANDON BARRY FITS PERFECTLY WITH THE GROUP AND GIVES SOME STELLAR PERFORMANCES ON “LOVE IS ALIVE FOREVER,” AND “HOLD ON A LITTLE LONGER.” GREAT VOCALS, INCREDIBLE SONGS, AND TOP NOTCH PRODUCTION QUALITY. DEFINITELY WORTH ADDING TO YOUR COLLECTION.
