THOUGHTS:
"Preserving the heritage, promoting the future." This is the motto of Dove Award nominated group Tribute Quartet. The group is back with another exciting new project that is the embodiment of this motto. Gary Casto, Josh Singletary, Riley Harrison Clark, and Anthony Davis honor the quartets of the past and put their mark on some of your favorite quartet classics with Tribute Quartet's Quartet Tribute, Volume One. This great new album is sure to delight listeners with timeless songs such as "Hide Thou Me," "I'm Standing On The Solid Rock," "What A Meeting In The Air," and more.
The record opens with the Harold Lane penned standard "I'm Standing On The Solid Rock," which features Gary Casto, Riley Harrison Clark, and Josh Singletary on the verses. Next, Riley Harrison Clark takes on the classic tenor song "Over The Moon." Clark's incredible tenor voice is a perfect fit for this not often recorded tune. The fun, up-tempo convention style song "Every Question Will Be Answered," is a faithful cover of the version originally recorded by both the Perrys and the Erwins. This track showcases each member with great step-out lines. Gary Casto takes the lead once again on "His Tomb Is Empty Now," which was recorded most recently by the Anchormen. This mid-tempo tune proclaims the truth that Christ is risen. Anthony Davis hits an impressive low note at the end of this anthem. Speaking of Davis, his smooth bass can be heard on the classic "Come On Let's Go To That Land." Tribute's version doesn't stray to far from the versions previously recorded by the Kingdom Heirs and the Dove Brothers. Davis truly impressed me with his range and vocal control on this song complete with some of the lowest and highest notes I have heard from him. Riley Harrison Clark is featured once again on the tenor classic "Hide Thou Me," which not only showcases his powerful voice, but also puts the group's harmonies on full display. Tribute honors the Statesmen with "Move That Mountain," featuring Gary Casto, Josh Singletary, and Anthony Davis (who surprised me with an impressive low solo.) Next, the group covers "What A Meeting In The Air," a beloved song of faith and does it justice with great vocals. Josh Singletary is featured on "I've Been With Jesus (And I'm So Happy)." The group's arrangement is almost identical to the version recorded by the Cathedrals, but the last chorus is slightly different (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM7IWTNNeRU.) This stroll down memory lane concludes with a Jim Hill classic "Hold On (Jesus Will Come)" originally recorded by the Florida Boys in 1977. This mid-tempo tune encourages listeners that someday the Lord will return and take us home.
