THOUGHTS:
Back in January, Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing announced that after a two year retirement The Old Paths would be returning to Southern Gospel Music. Returning members Tim Rackley (Lead), Doug Roark (Baritone), and Daniel Ashmore (Bass) are joined by former Anchormen and Gold City tenor Steve Ladd. This popular group’s, now only serving part time, vision has not changed and they are in it for the long run. Long Run features six incredible songs of inspiration, praise, and that classic quartet style.
This recording opens with the fun, up-tempo “Peace Is On The Way,” which features lead singer Tim Rackley. This song is about our struggles and the peace that awaits us at the end. Doug Roark is featured on the title track “In The Long Run,” which is a mid-tempo Country style song that is a metaphor the journey of the Old Paths as well as life’s journey. New tenor Steve Ladd takes the lead on the powerful ballad “Broken People Like Me,” which beautifully describes a life of faith lost and won again. Ladd’s vocals are incredible, but most importantly he sings with true conviction. The chorus is deeply moving. “For the nobody’s and could have beens, disillusioned and the doubters, every life train wrecked by sin, every down and outer, for the lonely and the one who’s weak, fool hearted with a stubborn streak, for the soul that doesn’t even know what they need, for the mixed up messed up broken people like me.” Next, the first single, “Tangled In The Middle,” featuring bass singer Daniel Ashmore, encourages listeners to pray. Call on the Lord to solve life’s riddles, so they don’t get tangled in the middle. You can’t do it by yourself! “At The Name Of Jesus,” is a powerful anthem featuring Tim Rackley that proclaims the name of Christ, the all-powerful Savior. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow! Closing out this short recording is the up-tempo “My Everyday Life,” which looks forward to the day when the Lord returns. Lord hasten the day! Don’t be surprised when the Lord returns I the middle of our everyday lives!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THE OLD PATHS ARE BACK!! MY ONLY ISSUE WITH THIS RECORDING IS THAT IT IS TOO SHORT!! STEVE LADD IS A GREAT ADDITION TO THE QUARTET AND DELIVERS AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE ON THE “BROKEN PEOPLE LIKE ME.”
THIS IS A MUST BUY!
