AN INTERVIEW WITH CODY SMITH OF COVERED BY LOVE
Covered By Love is a relatively new group in the Southern Gospel field. This exciting new trio comprised of Rhonda Smith and her sons has a great future ahead of them. This talented family is recently released their latest album God Wants You which features some great traditional style Southern Gospel. One such song "I'll Lay My Crown," showcases the impressive voice of Cody Smith. At just 17 years old, Smith has a maturity and soul to his voice that is sure to delight audiences and listeners. I recently was able to contact Smith for an brief interview.

Justin Gilmore: ...How did you get your start in Southern Gospel music?
Cody Smith: I began singing in church in October of 2007 when I was 7 years old. My desire to sing began much earlier. At age 18 months, in 2001, I happily followed on stage The Narrow Way Singers comprised of grandparents Larry and Mary Van Meter and aunt Roseanna Neal Adkins. I have continued working for the Lord with great dedication.
Gilmore: Great! Who are your musical influences?
Smith: My Grandparents, Larry and Mary Van Meter who have been singing for 50 years and introduced me to Southern Gospel Music.
Gilmore: Awesome! My grandmother introduced me to this music as well. Who are your favorite singers in Gospel music?
Smith: Peg McKamey Bean, Kenny Hinson, and Mike Payne.
Gilmore: Great list! Who are your favorite groups? Past or present
Smith: The McKameys, The Hinsons, and The Paynes.
Gilmore: Great groups! What has been the best part of traveling with your family group?
Smith: Seeing people encouraged and uplifted by our music, and seeing souls saved!
Gilmore: That's what it's all about! What is your favorite song to sing?
Smith: Of course our new single "I'll Lay My Crown" and "There's Power in God's Son."
Gilmore: Great songs! What is your favorite Scripture verse?
Smith: 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
Gilmore: Awesome! What is something people may not know about you?
Smith: The Lord has blessed me with the talent to sing all parts and harmony with anyone. Also, I am the groups fashion advisor.
Gilmore: That's fantastic! What is the most memorable experience you have had in your years of singing Gospel music?
Smith: The many adventures and experiences that come with traveling with family.
Gilmore: Great! Any advice for aspiring Southern Gospel artists?
Smith: Be True, humble and fight the good fight. Always keep God in the center of everything you do!
Gilmore: Good words of wisdom! What can fans expect from the group for the rest of the year?
Smith: New music, and new places to sing and expansion of our ministry.
