THOUGHTS:
Steve Ladd is no stranger to Southern Gospel Music. The popular tenor vocalist was a member of The Anchormen (1997-2004) and Gold City (2004-2009) before embarking on a solo career. In addition to his solo ministry, Ladd currently serves as the tenor singer for the newly revived Old Paths. No Excuses, No Regrets is his first solo project in four years (his first being released in 2013). This six song EP is fresh, exciting, and well produced (credit to the talented Cody McVey.) Ladd’s tenor voice is a strong as it has ever been in my opinion. The message of this project is clear: the unapologetic proclamation of the love of God! “All Things Are Possible God,” is a fun tune that simply says that with God by your side, nothing is impossible. Ladd covers the CCM hit, “Chain Breaker,” which showcases his unique tenor voice. Ladd’s version is closer to the original version which is a nice contrast to the recent cover by Triumphant Quartet. “What You’ve Already Done,” is a beautiful piano ballad that reminds that Christ is nothing but faithful. I will praise you for what you have already done. Ladd’s vocal performance is deeply moving on this well written song. “No Excuses, No Regrets,” is a mid-tempo track that is at the heart of his mission statement. I will live the life that you have given me. I will serve you and not apologize for it! Hope comes from Christ alone! Ladd shines on the groovy spiritual “Since I Laid My Burdens Down,” which is sure to have listeners clapping along. Closing out this great recording is the masterfully orchestrated “Living Water,” which entreats Christ to come into our lives. Come Living Water and fill us with Your Love. Ladd’s incredible range is put on full display on this powerful anthem.
Overall, this is a project worth adding to your music library. You will definitely have no regrets!
