THOUGHTS:
The McKameys are back again with a fresh and exciting new recording, Be Brave. This new release is truly a great collection of “message music.” You can tell that this celebrated family believes what they sing about. Each song is delivered with conviction creating a wonderful time of worship for the listener. The album starts with a classic convention style tune “So Good To Me,” which features the smooth bass tones of patriarch Ruben Bean on the chorus. This fun song showcases their stellar family harmony and simply thanks Christ for what He has done. Sheryl Farris takes the lead on the mid-tempo track “Living For Eternity,” which focuses on the everlasting life that Christ provides. I’m setting my sights on things above!! Peg McKamey Bean earnestly delivers the lyrics of “Come Forth As Gold.” This simple yet powerful song reminds us that God is faithful even through the trials of life. Ruben Bean is featured once again on the first verse of the mid-tempo tune “It’s Mine,” which claims Salvation provided by the blood of Christ on Calvary. Old things are new in Him. Connie Fortner’s classic soprano is featured on the second verse of this great anthem. Farris is featured again on the deeply moving title track which encourages the listener to boldly live your life for Christ. Be Brave and share the Gospel until the whole world knows! “On And On,” features Connie Fortner and is a simple song of gratitude. I could go on and on about the things that God has done for me! Roger Fortner takes the lead on “For The Record,” a mid-tempo song that proclaims belief in Christ. Let the record show that I pledge my allegiance to the One who saved me! Fortner’s smooth baritone shines on this profound track. “One Thing I Know,” features Peg once again and reminds us that Christ will never forsake us. One thing I know is that He never fails! When burdens of life weigh you down and Satan tries to sway you, just take hold of Christ and His promises. Farris takes the lead again on the beautiful lullaby-like track “Jesus Passed By,” which simply says “just a sinner was I, when Jesus passed by.” This incredible musical journey concludes with “Since When,” a mid-tempo track that asks the question: “Since when has He ever been unfaithful?” Connie shines on this simple yet moving lyric.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
This record is stellar! The McKameys once again provide listeners with fresh, exciting, and powerful Bible based songs and incredible vocal performances! Sheryl Farris is a fantastic songwriter who contributed six of the songs on this record including: “Be Brave,” “For The Record,” and “Living For Eternity.” I have to say that with the addition of a fun convention song and Ruben Bean’s more prominent bass voice, I found this CD to be even better than the previous release.
