SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW: THE SINGING CONTRACTORS

SOUTHERN GOSPEL SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS:

AN INTERVIEW WITH THE SINGING CONTRACTORS

Constructions workers, Josh Arnett and Aaron Gray, have become viral sensations. In a few short months, these friends and co-workers have taken the world by storm. Now known as the Singing Contractors, they never dreamed that the Lord would be using their love of Gospel music on a worldwide scale. The duo has since appeared on Fox & Friends as well as being recognized by former Gaither Vocal Band member Mark Lowry. It all began with the following video:

I recently came across their music and was blown away. I had to interview them asap!!

Here is the interview:

Justin Gilmore: Hello guys! Tell me how you got started singing together.

Contractors: We knew each other since we were kids but we ended up working with each other doing the same kind of work later on in life, we both know each other could sing. So when we happen to work on the same job one day we just start singing and thought hey This ain't bad and we recorded it put it on Facebook some didn't like it and some people did, people actually gave us the name of the singing contractors not ourselves, so we did this on and off for probably four year period. "How Great Thou Art" we posted that went viral and the rest is history.

Gilmore: Great! Who is your favorite singer in general?

Contractors: (Josh) I've always admired Mike English for his style and how he could make anything sound good! (Aaron) I've admired Jason crabb because of his unique approach of how his spirit brings to life songs.

Gilmore: Two fantastic artists!! Who are your favorite groups? Past or present

Contractors: We like the Gaither Vocal Band, Kingdom Heirs and the Crabb Family .

Gilmore: Those are some of my favorites as well! What is your favorite song to sing?

Contractors:(Aaron) "He'll Take Care of You." It's off our latest album written by Dan Penn/Gary Nicholson/Donnie Fritts. (Josh )"There's Always A Place At The Table," a Gloria Gaither and Larry Gatlin written song.

Gilmore: Incredible songs!! What is your favorite Scripture verse?

Contractors: (Josh) Psalm 28.7, (Aaron) Psalms 18 1-3

Gilmore: Great! What is something that people might not know about you?

Contractors: (Josh): likes to golf/ huge NFL Colts fan/ love chocolate. (Aaron): loves splitting wood/doing farm chores on his mini farm/loves to weld.

Gilmore: Awesome! Tell me about your first CD project.

Contractors: Our very first album we were able to make how we wanted. It's completely our sound and mixed and recorded with excellence. Our producer and mentor/supporter recorded us at his studio. He is none other than Jason Clark of the Nelons. We are honored to be a friend of his. Our country gospel sound is unique and this cd is with that sound and includes traditional songs like "Amazing Grace" "Life Is Like A Mountain Railway" and of course the one that started it all "How Great Thou Art."

Gilmore: Many of your videos have gone viral even grabbing the attention of Mark Lowry. What has this been like for you two?

Contractors: When Mark Lowry shared our video we were so ecstatic. Then feelings of excitement and true humbleness overwelmed us.We are just a couple of broken men who God has forgiven and is using us in ways we never could imagine! We didn't one day say "Hey, we want to start a group," it just happened!! We believe it is God divine and we want to make sure we give him all the credit and glory for it. Again a big thank you to Mark Lowry for sharing a couple of contractors singing!

Gilmore: That's is incredible! With this growing success, Is forming a full time group in your sights?

Contractors: We don't know about full time right now. It's where God leads and wants us! The door has surely been swung wide open.

Gilmore: I for one would be a fan of a quartet formed by you two. Any advice for aspiring Gospel artists?

Contractors: Advice is to keep God first and close to your heart, don't let the enemy tear you down telling you your not worthy. Always think with a clear and level head and stay in touch with reality and never forget where you came from! Dreaming is ok , but only with realism .

Gilmore: Great advice! What can fans expect from you guys this year? Any concerts or upcoming CDs?

Contractors: Yes be expecting a new cd! An all acapella cd, and yes Jason Clark(nelons) will be recording us! We will be going on our first cruise this Feb 19-26. Artists include the Nelons, Jeff Sheri Easter, Micheal English and many more.Be looking for our next job site video!!

Gilmore: Looking forward to more great music from you both!! Thanks for your time!
