THOUGHTS:
The name Rowland has been a mainstay in Southern Gospel Music for decades. Kyla Rowland has written many incredible songs that are among the industry’s greatest and most well known anthems. Today, her son Barry along with his wife Tammy and friend Shawn Rupert carry on the family legacy. This new Horizon Records project is full of passion, conviction, and excellent songs. This exciting new record showcases the strengths of the trio quite well. All but two songs were written by the great Kyla Rowland which gives the project that classic feel.
The project begins with the soulful mid-tempo track “God Delivered Me” which simply states that the Devil has no hold on us anymore. God has delivered us from the evil one!! Amen! Tammy Rowland shines on the tender ballad “Looking At A Risen Lamb,” which brilliantly tells of the transforming power of Christ. Rowland delivers the testimonial lyric beautifully. Remember, no matter how big our problems seem to be, Our God is bigger!! Next, the title track “The Light” declares the power of Christ as the Light of the world. There is no amount of darkness that can cover Jesus Christ! Lead singer Shawn Rupert is featured on the second verse of this incredible ballad showcasing his unbelievable range. “That Tomb Is Still Empty” features Rupert once again. This mid-tempo tune tells of the empty tomb and the joy that results from it. Death could not keep Him in the grave! My God is alive and living in me!! Amen! Barry Rowland’s warm baritone shines on “God’s Word Will Stand,” a beautiful ballad praising the faithfulness of Christ. His Word will never fail!
Rupert and Tammy Rowland take the lead on the beautifully written ballad “So, I’ll Tell Jesus,” which is a prayer in a song. It reminds us of the importance of prayer. We need to pray for one another. Christ can fix whatever is broken in your life!!! Just talk to Jesus! Rupert and Rowland give incredible performances on this beautiful song. Next, the classic Southern Gospel style tune “He’s Still On The Throne,” features Shawn Rupert’s powerful lead. The trio’s harmonies and excellent blend takes center stage on the mid-tempo tune “God Understands.” This brilliant lyric reassures us that God knows all about us. He is willing to help if we follow Him. He understands what we are going through! Next, “Holy, Glory To The Lamb” once again showcases the incredible harmonies of the trio. The message of deliverance shines through in this song of hope. This great project closes with a song of resurrection called “Marching In Victory,” featuring each member. The powerful message of this song is evident. We are marching in victory to Zion with the King of Kings. He is leading the way to Heaven in triumph. This life may be rough, but we can be happy in knowing we’ll live in Heaven with Christ if we believe!
