THOUGHTS:

Re-Soul’d, Vol. 4 is the latest entry in Soul’d Out Quartet’s popular CD series in which the group revisits songs from their past recordings. This fourth installment features songs from Throne Of Grace (2006) and Saved (2007). Brent Hooper (Tenor), Joel Trimble (Baritone), and Matt Fouch Bass) were vocalists on the 2006 project while Joel Trimble was replaced by Tanner Stahl on Saved. For the most part, the arrangements and tracks are unchanged, but with this recording there are some significant changes which gave a fresh new take to these songs.

The group starts this project off with the up-tempo “Throne Of Grace” which features bass Ian Owens and lead Matt Rankin. Bryan Hutson and Matt Rankin share the lead on the anthem “He Came Out Of The Grave” which proclaims the Resurrection of Christ. He is alive!! Amen!! Bryan Hutson’s soulful voice shines on the mid-tempo country style tune “Jesus Knows My Need” which originally appeared on Saved. Hutson’s version does justice to Tanner Stahl’s original version while breathing new life into this great song of praise. No other refuge, but the Lord!! Next, Matt Rankin takes the lead on the mid-tempo “Under The Blood” which describes the healing and transforming power of Christ. It says we are no longer under sin, but rather under the blood! The quartet shines on another mid-tempo song, from their 2006 release, called “I’m Ready To Move” also featuring Matt Rankin. This song showcases the smooth blend this lineup has perfected over the last three years. Bass singer Ian Owens is let loose on a medley of classic bass singer songs including “Everybody Will Be Happy Over There.” Owens continues to impress me with his incredible range. He reaches some solid low notes on this toe tapping number. The remaining songs were originally recorded on the group’s 2007 release Saved. Next, the group revisits the mid-tempo country flavored “I Want To Tell You” which now features Ian Owens. This song simply says I want to tell you about the awesome power and love of Jesus my Lord! The original version featured baritone Tanner Stahl which makes this the most significant change on this project. Owens’s smooth bass voice is a perfect fit for this solo. “He Is My Lamb,” featuring Bryan Hutson and Matt Rankin, is an anthem which praises Christ who sacrificed Himself for us. He cleansed us from our sin! He is my lamb! Ian Owens once again takes the lead on the up-tempo Resurrection song “The Day My Lord Was Raised.” Owens does a great job on the solos previously featuring Matt Fouch. This stellar collection of songs closes with the tender mid-tempo track “Talkin’ To God” which features Matt Rankin and Bryan Hutson. Hutson sings the second verse which was sung originally by guest vocalist Doug Anderson (former member of Ernie Haase & Signature Sound). Tenor Dusty Barrett shines throughout the project, though he does not have any solos. Overall, this recording takes ten great songs from the group’s recent past and gives them new life.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

THIS CD IS ANOTHER FANTASTIC ENTRY IN THE RE-SOUL’D SERIES! EACH MEMBER SHINES ON THIS PROJECT. I HAD NOT HEARD ANY OF THE TRACKS FROM Throne Of Grace SO THOSE SONGS WERE GREAT TO HEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME. I ALSO GREATLY ENJOYED HEARING NEW VERSIONS OF THE SONGS FROM Saved.

4.5 out of 5 stars!! For more information visit: www.souldoutquartet.com
