THOUGHTS:
I'm back with another review of a re-release project. This time it is the latest CD release from Legacy Five, Talkin' About Heaven. This was the last recording with former tenor Gus Gaches and a great project in general. I reviewed the previous version several months ago upon its orginal release. Here is an excerpt of that review: "Legacy Five is without a doubt one of the best quartets on the road today. This special table project is evidence of this. I am a big fan of convention style songs and this CD did not have a shortage of them at all! Each member gives incredible performances and continues to stay true to the call! Another great project from L5 and another incredible CD release for this year! 4 out of 5 stars!! I definitely recommend purchasing this CD!!"
This new version is the first CD to feature Josh Feemster, who joined the group as their new tenor in October 2015. While I enjoyed several of the Youtube videos of the new lineup, Feemster's tenor voice seemed strained, but showed signs of promise as his blend was great. However, after listening to this recording, his voice truly impressed me. His tenor sound reminds me alot of former Legacy Five tenor Frank Seamans. Feemster takes over the features from Gaches with ease. In particular, Feemster's voice shines on the choruses of "Let Me Tell You 'Bout Jesus," " Just A Little South Of Heaven," and "Grand And Glorious Feeling." His strongest features on this record in my opinion are on "His Name Is Wonderful" and "What A Lovley Name." Feemster belts an impressive high note at the end of the latter which solidifies him as a tenor. I'm looking forward to future projects with this lineup as well as seeing them again in concert soon.
My earlier thoughts still apply as far as the other performances and overall quality are concerned. Legacy Five continues to impress me with each release. 4.5 out of 5!!!
