THOUGHTS:
The name LeFevre has been a mainstay in Southern Gospel Music for decades. Mike LeFevre continues this legacy with his fan favorite quartet. The group’s style blends the traditional with a more modern or progressive sound which captivates audiences all over the country. This stellar new album showcases the style and sound for which the group has become known. The record begins with the traditional classic “Home” which expresses our desire to go to Heaven. The ballads “He Saved Me Anways” and “I Don’t Why” beautifully tell of our Savior’s love for us. Lead singer Jordan LeFevre blew me away with his incredible range on the latter. Despite all the sinful things we’ve done, Jesus still saved us. I don’t why he would want to save someone like me, but He did. Amen! Father and son (Mike and Jordan) take the lead on the mid-tempo Easter anthem “He Was There.” This well written song proclaims the power of Christ and His Resurrection. Jeremy Peace, who recently joined the group, shines on the third verse with his incredible tenor voice as well.
Bass singer Brandon Barry delivers the heartfelt lyrics of “To Say Goodbye,” a country flavored ballad about love and loss. This is hands down my track on this entire record. The second verse especially resonated with me as it reminded me of my late grandmother who had dementia. The second verse says: “He sits beside her in the nursing home/ through her silver hair he runs a comb/he hangs her wedding picture on the wall, she don’t remember who he is at all/he tells her stories ‘bout the life they’ve lived/from their first kiss to their last grandkids/ for seven months now she just sits and stares/ but if she wakes up, he’s gonna be right there.” I was moved by the story in this song and the way it reflects the love of God. Brandon Barry has never sounded better, in my opinion, than on this song. His warm and smooth bass voice suited this song perfectly.
Next, the first single from the project “He Left No Stone Unturned” is another outstanding song. This power ballad beautifully describes the Savior’s life and His ultimate sacrifice for us. As the song says, He left no stone unturned but he left one rolled away!! He fulfilled his mission and saved our souls!! Amen! The group showcases their smooth blend on the mid-tempo song of encouragement “Something.” This well crafted track simply says nothing becomes something with God. Nobodies become somebodies with God!! So if you feel down and out, remember God loves and cares for you. He can use anyone to spread His Word. Next, new tenor Jeremy Peace gives an incredible vocal performance on the beautiful ballad “I’ll Do Anything.” This powerful song illustrates Christ’s love for us and His desire for us to truly know Him. He died to save us from sin so that we could live forever with Him in Heaven. This is the greatest gift we have ever received and especially important to remember during this Christmas season. Mike LeFevre takes the lead on the ballad “All I Can Do Is Pray,” which is a beautiful prayer in song. It simply says, “I will stand for you down on my knees, I’ll cry out for you when I whisper my plea, in Jesus’ name I’m doing it all, when all I can do is pray!” What a beautiful lyric!! Mike LeFevre gives a stellar performance on this incredible track. The album closes with the only true up-tempo tune on the record “Unseen Things Above,” which once again features Mike Lefevre. This fun, catchy lyric talks about looking toward Heaven. This record also includes a bonus song which is another version of “I Don’t Know Why,” which features Les Cheveldayoff from TBN. He nails the second verse of this song, in my opinion.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
GO GET THIS CD NOW!!! The LeFevre Quartet has never sounded better than on this recording, in my humble opinion. Each member gives stellar vocal performances on this album. The standouts for me include: “To Say Goodbye,” “I’ll Do Anything,” “He Left No Stone Unturned,” and “I Don’t Know Why.” This was also the first CD with Jeremy Peace in the tenor position. Peace fits in perfectly with the quartet and delivers some incredible vocals on this project. I look forward to more from this outstanding new lineup. My only wish is that Brandon Barry would have had at least one more solo, but all in all this album was fantastic from start to finish.
