SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW: JOSH FEEMSTER OF LEGACY FIVE

SOUTHERN GOSPEL SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS

Last month, Legacy Five announced that Josh Feemster would be replacing Gus Gaches at the tenor position. This past weekend marked Feemster's debut with the group and he seems to be fitting in well with the quartet (based on what video footage I've seen). Feemster previously sang lead with Mercy's Mark Quartet from 2004 to 2007. I recently contacted Josh via Facebook and asked him some questions which he graciously answered.

So without further ado, here is the interview:

Justin Gilmore: Hello Mr. Feemster! How did you get your start in Southern Gospel music?

Josh Feemster: Garry Jones called me after hearing a cd. He gave me my first job in the industry. I grew up in singing family. So I've always been involved in singing.

Gilmore: Awesome! Who are your musical influences?

Feemster: Ivan Parker, Kirk Talley, Danny Funderburk, Gerald Wolfe, Steve Lacey, Dave Phelps, Terry Franklin.

Gilmore: What a great list of artists!! Who is your favorite singer in Gospel or secular music?Feemster: Too many to chose from. Wendy Moten amazes me. Bono blows me away. Phelps astounds me. Johnny Cash is just cool.

Gilmore: Nice! Speaking of Phelps, what is the highest note you can sing?

Feemster: No idea. I train with Brett manning and he never tells me what I'm hitting. He did flip one time at an f above high c.

Gilmore: Great! Who are your favorite groups? Past or present

Feemster: The Cathedrals, Gold City, GVB, Talleys, the Martins.

Gilmore: Those are some of my favorites as well! You sang lead for Mercy’s Mark Quartet eight years ago. What is your fondest memory of traveling with the group?

Feemster: Having my wife come to any program that was within 150 miles of home. She's an incredible woman and loves to hear me sing.

Gilmore: Great! So how did you come in contact with Legacy Five? Feemster: Gerald Wolfe was helping me with a solo project and was convinced I was a tenor. He called Scott Fowler who then convinced me I was a tenor.

Gilmore: What are you looking forward to them most about traveling with L5? Feemster: Hanging out with a great group of men who love to sing and love God.

Gilmore: They are a great group of guys! What is your favorite song to sing? Feemster: I love Blessed Assurance.

Gilmore: Classic! What is your favorite Scripture verse? Feemster: Deuteronomy 33:27

Gilmore: What is something that people might not know about you? Feemster: I almost got arrested but it was a joke executed perfectly by Garry Jones.

Gilmore: Wow that must have been crazy! What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in your years of singing Gospel music? Feemster: Seeing Scott Howard set the stage on fire at the Jubilee Christmas 2015 videotaping.

Gilmore: Awesome! Any advice for aspiring Gospel artists? Feemster: Train your voice with great coaching. I recommend Brett Manning and singing success.

Gilmore: Great advice! What can fans expect from the group this next year? Feemster: Not entirely sure but I can't wait to see what happens.

Gilmore: Looking forward to seeing you with the group here in CA soon! Thanks for your time!
