THOUGHTS:

The Perrys are back again with another stellar collection of faith-filled songs. Sing is the group’s second album on Ernie Haase and Wayne Haun’s award winning label StowTown Records and features excellent vocals listeners have come to expect. The group has experienced some hardships and changes over the last few years, but God has truly blessed them with the continued ability to sing for Him. Tracy Stuffle, the quartet’s beloved bass singer, is still on the road to recovery and his health continues to improve. Libbi, his loving wife, still delights audiences with her powerful alto voice. Their son Jared fills the bass position and is becoming a solid performer and vocalist. The Stuffles are joined by lead singer Andrew Goldman and former Perrys baritone Troy Peach returns to round out the classic Perrys sound.

The album begins with a toe tapping, hand clapping song called “Did I Just Hear The Thunder” which points our thoughts toward Heaven. This barn burner features the strong clear tones of baritone Troy Peach. Next, Libbi Stuffle takes the lead on the powerful ballad “Keep On” which encourages listeners to put your trust in Jesus. Keep on, hold fast and have faith. We must stay strong and pray hard. This first single is a testimony song for the group and truly captures the incredible sound of the group. This song is one of my personal favorites on the album. Lead singer Andrew Goldman steps up on the mid-tempo traditional style song “Fear For Faith.” This song simply says the power of faith drives away all fear and doubt. I’ve trade all my fear for faith!! Amen!!

Goldman also shines on the tender ballad “The Unexpected Storm” which tells of God’s faithfulness. He will keep you safe through the storms of life. One line particularly stood out to me: “Every storm has a reason though it’s hard to understand/every trial has a purpose, it’s all a part of God’s plan.” This line resonated with me as my family and I have gone through some rough “storms” over the last few months, but I have comfort in knowing my God is with me and that He has it all under control. The powerful anthem “Cry No More” featuring Libbi, looks toward Heaven and the day we will no longer suffer. We will soon leave our pain and sorrows behind and live forever with Jesus Christ, our Savior. The pace picks back up with the mid-tempo country flavored “I’ve Never Been There” which tells of Heaven’s splendor. Bass singer Jared has some standouts backed up by Andrew and Troy. JK has a natural talent and is improving more and more as a vocalist. He fills the bass part well and adds his solid low harmonies throughout the record.

Troy Peach takes the lead on the country flavored mid-tempo ballad “Both Sides Of The River” which addresses death and our crossing into Heaven. This is another strong track on this recording. Next, the traditional style ballad “I Claim The Blood” is another standout feature for Libbi Stuffle that simply says I claim the cleansing Blood of Christ. I have been redeemed by the Great Redeemer on Calvary’s Hill. Jesus Christ cleansed us from all our sin, our sickness, and our pain. Amen! Once again, the group picks up the tempo with the groovy title cut “Sing” which features Andrew Goldman on the verses. This song of praise reminds us that Christ is supreme. I must take note of the incredible bass harmonies from JK on this song! This song is sure to be hit on the charts and at concerts. Tracy, while still not back at top singing form, turns in a heartwarming performance on the classic “Time Has Made A Change In Me.” This is one of my favorite Gospel songs of all time and Stuffle sings it well. He is a backed by fellow Southern Gospel artists and friends Karen Peck Gooch and Kelly Nelon Clark which is a treat. This stellar recording closes with a driving anthem of hope called “I Have Seen The Power” featuring Andrew Goldman. This incredible lyric addresses the transforming power of Christ. I have seen the power of the Lord in the hearts of the redeemed. The power of resurrection is alive in me!! What a message!!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This record is a MUST BUY!! Fans of the Perrys, traditional or progressive Gospel music alike will love this album. The songs are well written and the vocals are top notch. I would have liked to hear Jared on a solo, however this does not take away from this amazing project. This is another quality recording for this beloved group! 4.5 of 5 Stars
