THOUGHTS:
For more than three decades, the Anchormen have been traveling the country and the world spreading the good news of the Gospel to thousands of people. They perform around two hundred concert dates per year and dedicate their lives to praising Jesus Christ.
The Anchormen are known for the incredible and well written songs many of which have made the Top 40 on the Singing News Charts. Baritone and founder Terry Carter prides himself on producing top quality recordings as evidenced by the vast catalog of Anchormen records. Their latest CD only continues this tradition of quality songs and production. Tapestry- Woven Treasures, which was released in March of this year, features a variety of old and new songs including a couple of Anchormen classics that have been re-recorded.
This solid recording produced and arranged by Joey Gore features each member of the quartet well. Terry Carter shines on Anchormen classic and opening track “Come To The Fountain” which is a fun up-tempo song about the transforming power of Christ.
Lead singer Jamie Caldwell turns in an incredible performance of the Gordon Jenson standard “Redemption Draweth Nigh” delivering the lyric with great emotion and vocal prowess. Caldwell left the group this summer and former lead Philip Hughes rejoined. He is also featured on the mid-tempo “I’m Gonna Lift My Praise” which is a song of worship to the Lord. In addition to these, he is also showcased on the Anchormen classic “I’ve Been Touched” which is a welcome addition to this stellar project.
Longtime tenor Derrick Boyd is featured on his “signature song” “He Is Worthy” which he sang with the Dixie Melody Boys back in 1987. Boyd delivers the lyric of praise and worship beautifully. His clear and resonant tenor shines on this song which simply states that Christ is worthy of our praise. This is definitely a standout track for me on this recording. His powerful tenor is also showcased on simple and worshipful ballad “Without Him.”
Returning bass singer Will Lane is featured on the current single “You Ain’t Seen The Last Of Jesus” written by Jason Clark of the Nelons along with Wayne Haun (EHSS) and Lee Black. Lane’s bass voice and Caldwell’s powerful lead drive home this song of resurrection. I recently had the opportunity to interview Terry Carter for SGN Scoops and he said this concerning this song:
Carter states, “We feel we have a great cut with our new single release called ‘You Ain’t Seen The Last of Jesus. We are excited to see how it will do on radio.”
Overall, this is a stellar well produced table project. Terry Carter and the Anchormen continue the tradition of the group and release quality Biblically sound material. Each member shines on this CD of both old and new songs. This is must buy for Gospel music fans as well as fans of this incredible award winning quartet.
