AN INTERVIEW WITH SCOTTY INMAN OF TRIUMPHANT QUARTET

Triumphant Quartet has been a solid powerhouse vocal unit since its inception in 2002. One fourth of this unit is the smooth baritone vocalist and son of lead singer Clayton Inman, Scotty Inman. Inman has become a great vocalist in his own right as well as a respected songwriter over the course of his career. He has written many of the group’s hits including: “Hey Jonah,” “You’ll Find Me There,” “Only The Strong Will Survive,” “Almost Home,” “Do You Know That You Know,” and “God’s Been Faithful.” Mr. Inman graciously accepted my interview request and I’m pleased to present the following interview! Enjoy!

J. Gilmore: Hello Mr. Inman! So, how did you get your start in Southern Gospel Music?

S. Inman: I grew up in it. My dad has sung professionally my whole life. My first job singing was with Poet Voices.

J. Gilmore: That’s great!! The Poet Voices was an awesome group! Who are your musical influences?

S. Inman: My dad (Clayton Inman), Phillips, Craig, and Dean, Gaither Vocal Band, Singing Americans, to name a few.

J. Gilmore: Those are some amazing performers!! Who is your favorite singer (in Gospel or secular music)?

S. Inman: I don't have a favorite, but I like voices like Guy Penrod, Don Henley, Michael McDonald, Dan Dean, etc etc

J. Gilmore: Guy Penrod is one of my favorites as well! Who are your favorite groups? Past or present

S. Inman: I grew up in the 80s so I loved the Singing Americans, Gold City, and the Cathedrals of that era. GVB has always been a favorite no matter the members. Also the Eagles.

J. Gilmore: I love those groups as well with the GVB at the top of my list!! What song that you have written has meant the most to you?

S. Inman: “God's Been Faithful"- the song actually ministered to me after my daughter Embry was born and went through life threatening complications. God IS Faithful.

J. Gilmore: Wow! That’s incredible! What a powerful truth!! What has been the best part of traveling with Triumphant?

S. Inman: Getting to do what I love to do, with my brothers (and father haha), knowing that the music we sing can make a difference in someone's life for eternity

J. Gilmore: Well, I am a big fan of your music which has made an impact on my life. What is your favorite song to sing?

S. Inman: “Somebody Died For Me”

J. Gilmore: What a great song!! What is your favorite Scripture verse?

S. Inman: 2 Timothy 1:7, Phil 4:13, Eph 2:8, to name few.

J. Gilmore: Awesome! What is something that people might not know about you?

S. Inman: I had stage fright and didn't sing in front of an audience until I was 16.

J. Gilmore: Wow! You would never know that now!! What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in your years of singing Gospel music?

S. Inman: I've had a few thankfully. Singing at Carnegie Hall, going to the Grammys as a nominee, and there are many more. Too many to write down.

J. Gilmore: Great! Since the group recently signed with StowTown Records, what can fans expect from Triumphant in this new year? Any upcoming projects?

S. Inman: Yes! Our first album with STR is due out April 14th "Living In Harmony."

J. Gilmore: The project is fantastic and gonna be a big hit!!Any advice for aspiring Gospel artists?

S. Inman: Sing whenever and wherever you can. You never know who's listening!

J. Gilmore: Good advice!! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview!!
