A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE OLD PATHS

Old-Paths.jpg

This stellar group founded in 2003 took inspiration as well as their name from the following verse: Jeremiah 6:16 KJV – “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for The Old Paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls……..” (Old Paths Website). The Old Paths was founded by Tim Rackley (Lead) and Doug Roark (Baritone) in Morristown, Tennessee with Chad Dominey rounding out the original lineup at tenor. Dominey, after recording one album in 2004, would soon leave the group in 2005 and Jeff Schreiber joined to fill the tenor position. Schreiber spent almost two years with the group which had now become a quartet with the addition of bass singer Brandon Barry in 2005. Soon the group began receiving national attention with the addition of former Kingsmen tenor Jeremy Peace, known for his incredible high notes and several octave range, joining the group in 2007. Joe Cox also served as pianist for the group during this time. This lineup experienced great success with several hits songs including: “For the First Time”, “Going to Where He Lives”, and “He Chose the Tree.” Brandon Barry would depart from the group in early 2008 and young bass singer Trent Adams would fill the position for a few months in 2008. Joe Cox and Trent Adams would soon leave to join the Blackwood Quartet. At the start of 2009, the group was a trio once again. This great lineup released three recordings, Signature Collection (new recordings of original songs done by the group), Journey Down the Old Path, Volume 3 and His Name Is Jesus. In 2010, the trio released one of their most popular recordings Wonderful Life. Along with the release of this project, young pianist Trey Ivey joined the group. Later in the year, Brandon Barry rejoined thus making the trio a quartet once again. His bass vocals were then added to the project and then the CD was rereleased. Barry remained with the group for a year departing once again in 2011. Young bass singer Daniel Ashmore joined the quartet as his replacement and has quickly solidified his place among the best bass vocalists of the next generation. Pianist Trey Ivey also left the group in 2011 and joined Legacy Five. In 2012, the quartet signed with Crossroads Music Group and released their first major label CD Right Now which produced two number one hits “Battlestand” and “God’s Great.” The following year the group released These Truths which also produced two more number one hits “Long Live The King” and “Love Them To Jesus.” In 2013, Josh Townsend joined as the pianist for the group. This quartet shows no signs of slowing down and stays true to the call to spread the Gospel to all people. They have an incredible sound with a soaring tenor, powerful lead, tender baritone, and rich bass. The group is currently preparing to release their new CD entitled Stay which is sure to delight and bless fans of their music. Make sure to go and get this record when it is released on March 17th.
