Thoughts on the CD:
If you love Southern Gospel Music, this is a must buy for you!! I agree with founder Billy Blackwood's belief that this recording is one ofthe best the group has ever done! Each song on the project is a perfect mix between the old and the new styles of quartet singing. Songs like "I'll Fly Away Home," "Walkin' An Talkin'" and "Heaven Will Be Mine Someday" harken back to the early days of The Blackwood Brothers' 80 year career while songs like "Forever Forgiven," and "Long Gone" are more progressive or contemporary in style. Each member is shines on this monumental recording! Longtime tenor Wayne Little is featured on the powerful ballad "Forever Forgiven" which beautifully captures the truth of the Gospel: that Jesus came to save us from our sin! His classic tenor voice is also featured on the jazzy tune "You Can Find What I Found" which as mentioned above was the first single from the project. Lead singer Michael Helwig shines most notably on a song called "Heaven Will Be Mine Someday" which is, as Blackwood describes it, "A throwback to the old 50s sound." Bass singer Butch Owens lends his rich low notes to an old JD Sumner song called "Walkin' And Talkin'." Owens also takes the lead on a fun, uptempo song about the the promises of Jesus to take care of us called "Oh, No You Don't." Also, legendary Country Music group The Oak Ridge Boys joins the quartet on the uptempo country driven song "Long Gone" which describes the great resurrection day. Billy Blackwood shines on the first verse with the Blackwood Brothers backing him on the first chorus while Duane Allen takes the second verse with the Oaks backing him on the second chorus. The groups then comes together on the bridge and the final chrouses. This recording celebrates the illustrious 80 year career of this incredible quartet. The Blackwood Brothers were and continue to be pioneers in the field of Southern Gospel Music.
The Blackwood Brothers are an incredible group of not only talented vocalists, but Godly men. They have have a long and successful career and this recording shows that they still have it! This CD is perfect mix of traditional and modern styles!
