A Special Saturday Edition of SONG CORNER
THE PLAN OF SALVATION
Written by Ruby Moody
This song has been on my heart for several weeks now. The message is simple: Thank you Jesus for your love for us. His love for the world was so great that He was willing to die on the cross for us. This is the message of the Gospel!! Moody's lyrics paint a picture of that crucifixion day in a simple yet powerful way.
This great song has been recorded by numerous groups over the years most notably by the legendary Cathedral Quartet in 1986. Famed bass vocalist George Younce takes the lead on the verse and delivers the lyric with his signature rich and melodic voice as seen in the above video.
The lyrics of the verse are as follows:
"One morning at daybreak/ a crowd slowly gathered/ they were walking my Lord up ole Calvary's hill/ so sad was the scene there/ the birds hushed their singing/ like a lamb He was humbled/ to His Father's own will."
Many a bass singer has sung this verse, but in my humble opinion, nobody can sing it like Younce.
However, bass singers of recent years have delivered great performances such as Tim Duncan (with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound), Pat Barker (with the Dixie Echoes), and Will Lane (with Driven). Recently, I came across a young family group called the Erwins. This group is comprised of four siblings: Keith (22), Kody (20), Kris (18), and Katie (14). This young group is incredible and taking Gospel music by storm. Their latest release Back to Basics (2013), includes The Plan of Salvation which features 20 year old bass singer Kody on the verse. Kody delivers a stellar performance and hits solid low notes for his age. This young group represents the bright future for this great style of music.
For everyones listening pleasure, here are several standout versions of this incredible song:
