THOUGHTS:
The Kingdom Heirs are back and better than ever. This exciting new recording features the signature harmonies that fans of the group have come to expect. The Last Big Thing is the first mainline CD featuring new baritone Loren Harris who joined last year. Some of Southern Gospel’s most beloved songwriters including frequent collaborator Dianne Wilkinson contributed some great new songs for this project.
The CD opens with a fun, bouncy track called “Plenty Of Singing,” which talks about the joy and praise that will be when we are at home with Jesus. This track showcases the classic Kingdom Heirs harmonies well. Next, bass singer Jeff Chapman shines on the Rebecca Peck and Dianne Wilkinson penned “Victory.” This uptempo tune proclaims the power that we have in Jesus. We have overcome and and have victory over sin and death in Him. Jerry Martin also nails some step out lines in the later choruses that showcase his impressive high notes. “Telling The Story,” written by Kyla Rowland and Jessica Thomas, features Loren Harris and is a mid-tempo track which tells of the transforming power of Christ and His many miracles. Harris delivers the lyric beautifully and his smooth baritone blends well with the group. The title track proclaims the coming of Christ and that “it’s not about a president, it’s all about a king.” This timely song is a great groove for the soulful voice of Arthur Rice. Tenor Jerry Martin takes the lead on the uptempo tune “Heroes Of Faith,” written by Gerald Crabb. This fun song looks to the great men of the Bible and says I want to have that kind of faith! Next, Jeff Chapman takes the lead once again on the mid-tempo groove “I Wanna Do More,” written by KH drummer Dennis Murphy. This simple lyric encourages listeners to share the Good News of Christ to everyone you meet. Do more for the Lord. Chapman hits some incredible low notes on this song that are sure to leave listeners speechless. Arthur Rice is featured again on “Heaven Was Counting To Three,” written by Jim Brady and Rodney Griffin, This mid-tempo track describes the Crucifixion and the Lord’s Glorious Resurrection. Death could not hold Him. “While Satan was counting his victory, all of Heaven was counting to three. “ Chapman delivers the somber lyrics of “Heaven Just Got Sweeter For You,” which is a tender ballad about loss. This song reminds us that for those who believe, death is not the end. The grave is only temporary. Someday you will see them again. Jerry Martin is featured once again on another Dianne Wilkinson song “Just Another Mile.” This mid-tempo track reminds us that Christ could come back at any time and that this world is not our home. “There is a better time and place. Just another mile and I could see His Face.” Loren Harris takes the lead on the big band inspired “Live it Up,” which says I’ll praise God even when struggles press on. The rain is gonna fall. So don’t complain because the Son is still shining. This incredible album closes with the Dianne Wilkinson penned “I’ll Trust You With My Tomorrow,” which simply says His Grace is never failing, so trust Him always.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THIS IS IN MY TOP 5 FAVORITE CDS OF THE YEAR. OVERALL, THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE RECORDING COMPLETE WITH GREAT SONGS, PRODUCTION QUALITY, AND IMPRESSIVE VOCALS. STANDOUT TRACKS INCLUDE: “VICTORY,” “THE LAST BIG THING,” “I WANNA DO MORE,” “HEAVEN JUST GOT SWEETER FOR YOU,” AND “JUST ANOTHER MILE.” THE KINGDOM HEIRS ARE ONE OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL’S MOST BELOVED GROUPS AND THIS CD IS A TESTAMENT TO THIS. ONE OF THEIR BEST YET!!
