Legacy Five’s bass vocalist Matt Fouch is back again with another well crafted solo album featuring timeless hymns of our faith. Simply titled The Story And The Song, this unique project not only features nine beloved classic standards, but also includes the powerful stories behind them. In addition, these stories are read by beloved Southern Gospel artists including: Kim Collingsworth, Gerald Wolfe, Ernie Haase, Scott Fowler, Ronnie Booth, and Connie Hopper.
“The inspiration for this album is to simply give folks a different experience with the hymns. So many artists have done a hymns album in the last ten years. Pretty much everybody. I wanted to give folks a way to experience these songs differently by providing the stories behind the songs.”- Matt Fouch
Many artists have released hymns albums over the years. Each one is usually similar as well. Therefore, I appreciate Fouch’s approach to this recording immensely. I found the stories behind these incredible songs of faith to be fascinating and powerful. Fouch, in my opinion, succeeded in providing a truly special experience with these recognizable hymns. This album captured several of my loves: Christ, music, and history. While I know of some of the great figures of the Church behind some of the hymns, this album expanded my knowledge of these songs and has given me a new appreciation of them. Fouch’s smooth bass vocals fit these songs perfectly as well. This CD showcases his impressive range with his higher register featured on “All Creatures Of Our God And King” and lower register on “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” My favorite track on this project, however, is “Be Thou My Vision,” featuring Candice Fouch. I was blown away by Candice’s vocals, the beautiful harmonies and the arrangement.

This is my hope as well. This unique album definitely helps give listeners a new perspective on these timeless classics.

IF YOU LOVE GREAT BASS SINGING AND CLASSIC HYMNS, THEN THIS CD IS FOR YOU! MATT FOUCH IS ONE OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC'S BEST BASS SINGERS ON THE ROAD TODAY IN MY OPINION. THIS CD SHOWCASES HIS IMPRESSIVE VOCAL RANGE AND HIS HEART FOR CHRIST. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS,” “BE THOU MY VISION,” AND “TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS.” OVERALL, THIS CD IS A MUST BUY. GREAT SONG SELECTION, PRODUCTION QUALITY AND VOCALS.
